West Nile Virus Synopsis
Cabarrus county followed the nationwide trend of decrease virus activity.  Nationally cases decreased from 9862 to 2432 and the death toll similarly decreasing from 264 to 87 deaths.  A victory for Public Health Pest Management!  As with all viral transmissions, they behave with cyclic activity meaning that there will be downward trends followed by spikes of activity.  No one knows the the rhythm of WNV cycle yet, so active surveillance is necessary to stay ahead of the disease.
